Payment Methods Accepted

July 2016.  We have found that our arrangement for processing bank debit and credit cards has proved unsatisfactory and we have terminated our agreement with our provider.  We are in the process of finding an alternative.  You can still pay by bank card via our PayPal account.  This will entail sending you an electronic PayPal invoice which you can settle in the normal way by your card.  The PayPal charges are billed to us.

Payment is due upon receipt of the books, although we realise that institutions need time to process accounts.  The right to present a pro-forma invoice is reseved. United Kingdom customers known to us may settle by personal cheque.

All items are guaranteed as described and may be returned within 14 days if, in any way, they are unsatisfactory.  We would appreciate early notification if you are returning an item and we will be happy  to pay the return postage if the item has been mis-described by us.

Prices are net, with carriage charged at cost.  Packing is free.

Overseas orders, if large, are sent by surface mail.  Smaller and more valuable items are despatched by air.  An invoice will be sent, by air, at the time of despatch, together with your card payment slip.  If you particularly wish heavy orders to be sent by air please specify when ordering and we will be pleased to calculate and advise you of the cost.

Conversion charges.

Please add the equivalent of £8.00 to help towards bank conversion charges

if payment is made in a currency other than Pounds Sterling (Great Britain pounds).

Direct payments may be made to our bank

and we will be glad to furnish you with the details when required.

We aim to describe books as accurately as possible.

Unless otherwise noted books are published or printed at London,

are crown or medium octavo in size, and in the original cloth and in very good condition.

Postage charges

Unlike other book genres, for example paperbacks or modern literature, works on history are much more variable in size and can range from a small early pamphlet costing little to post to mult-volume sets or large architectural folios.  Due to this variance we do not have standard shipping charges but we will always send by the most economical route unless otherwise instructed.  The standard quoted charge is for a 1 kilogram order.  This will almost always cover the cost of posting a standard university press monograph.  We will always be happy to quote you the cost at the time of your individual order.  We do not charge for packing or insurance nor do we seek to profit by the postage element of any order.
